Fall prevention, privates

For the year after
the fall. Or before.

A fall rearranges a life - the hesitation on the stairs, the grip on the banister, the quiet decision to stop walking to the store. Our private practice is built around that exact year: measured balance, rebuilt ankles and hips, and the confidence that returns in inches. The first session includes the numbers; so does every eighth after.

  • ◆Balance measured at sessions 1, 8, and beyond - numbers you can watch improve
  • ◆Ankle, hip, and grip strength in every session
  • ◆Stride and stairs work - the real-world balance
  • ◆Home safety walk-through included

Why the numbers

Confidence is built out of evidence

After a fall, reassurance is cheap and courage is expensive. What actually restores a walking life is evidence: the one-leg stand that went from four seconds to nineteen, the stairs that stopped being a decision. We measure at the first session and every eighth one, and we show you the chart - because the chart is the courage.

Privates only, in your home, because the stairs that scare you are your stairs, and the curb that worries you is on your block. We practice where you actually live.

The practice

Specialists, not generalists

Founder & teacher

Ingrid Halvorsen

Physical-therapist assistant turned RYT-500, and a Norwegian grandmother with strong opinions about ice. Built the Fall-proof assessment from CDC balance protocols and fifteen years of clients.

Teacher

Andre Willis

CPI-trained, works with Parkinson's and stroke clients, and runs the stairs-and-curb sessions. Former high school football coach; treats every staircase like a winnable game.

Teacher

Gwen Sorensen

The home-safety walk-through specialist - rugs, lighting, the bathroom grab bar conversation - with the gentlest bluntness in Minnesota.

Client care

Yolanda Pierce

Scheduling, physician coordination with your written okay, and the family updates for the people who worry from out of state.

Getting started

From first call to steady practice

01

01

The assessment

Ninety minutes: the four balance measures, the strength screen, the home walk-through. You receive the numbers in writing, in plain English, with the plan.

02

02

The weekly hour

Your teacher, your home, your program - ankles, hips, grip, stride, and the specific stairs or curb on your route.

03

03

The practice

Homework exists and it is five minutes, three times a week, written on one page. Andre calls it "the only homework that prevents a fall."

04

04

Re-measure

Session eight or month six: the same four measures, the chart, the comparison. This appointment is the entire reason we exist.

In homes

La pratique, en vrai

Session one: the measurement

The numbers most people have never had.

The studio is whatever your real life looks like: your staircase, your curb, your kitchen counter for support. Balance rebuilt in a studio stays in the studio; balance rebuilt on your own porch steps goes everywhere with you.

Client stories

What our clients say

"After my hip, I walked like a woman apologizing for walking. Ingrid measured everything, made me a chart, and six months later the chart made me brave. I walk to the lake now. The chart is on the refrigerator."

Carolyn E.
71, Minneapolis

"My father, 84, fell in March and stopped leaving the house. Andre treated the porch steps like spring training. By October he was walking to the bakery, and he showed the balance chart to the baker. The baker was impressed."

Rachel S.
daughter, calling from Boston

"The home walk-through found three things I had walked past for a decade. The grab bar conversation was handled with such Minnesota diplomacy that my husband thought installing it was his idea."

Joan M.
77, St. Louis Park

Frequently asked questions

Roughly a third of our clients are the proactive kind - usually after watching a sibling or spouse fall. The assessment and the numbers are exactly the same, and your insurance agent would approve.
No - fitness, measured carefully. We work alongside your PT and physician, never instead of them, and with your written okay we send them the progress charts. Many PTs refer clients to us for exactly this follow-on.
Instructors are CPI-trained and fall-response certified, and the session structure is built so support is always in reach. We also practice the getting-up-from-the-floor sequence early, on purpose, with support - it is the most confidence-building twenty minutes we teach.
Yes - Andre's specialty, in coordination with your movement-disorder team. The research on yoga and Parkinson's is genuinely encouraging and we keep current with it.
We show up. The six-month rebuild includes indoor stride work, ice-protocol training (Ingrid's opinions on ice are strong and Norwegian), and the option to shift temporarily to live video when the driveway is a rink.
Gladly - monthly plain-English updates with your permission. Yolanda fields the out-of-state worry calls professionally; it is half her job.
